2024 CONVENTION COMMITTEE MESSAGE

A CELEBRATION!

Michigan Federation of Music Clubs has long been a multi-faceted organization. Its members include professional musicians, amateur musicians, music teachers, music students, parents, benefactors, and volunteers. These diverse members have one thing in common – a love of music!

On May 16 – May 18, 2024, we will gather in Lansing, Michigan for our Annual Business Meeting and Convention. This is an opportunity to acknowledge, explore, and enjoy our common goals – the support of American music and composers, the promotion of music education, and the sharing of ways to provide quality music in our communities. MFMC members who have been part of the organization for decades can enjoy meeting new members, many of whom have just begun their music careers.

The Convention Committee has planned a variety of performances, from a lecture/recital by Piano Pedagogy Professor Derek Polischuk to a presentation by Edelweiss Alphorn Club of Mid-Michigan. Also featured will be Opera Professor Richard Fracker, Violinist Megan Crawford, Guitarist Dr. Anur Alakavuklar, Harpist Belle Coty, and Bassoonist Ian Morin.

In addition to these presentations will be MFMC Award Winners performances on Friday evening. National Federation of Music Clubs First Vice President Heidi Hong will be our guest speaker.

There have been many requests for Choral Day, so our Saturday emphasis this year will be choral – a rehearsal and performance of MFMC Massed Chorus led by Charles Norris from Grand Valley State University. Individual club choruses will also perform.

Please join us to celebrate our common interests and hopes for the future. We look forward to seeing all of you at the convention in May!
